Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to identify the risk factors affecting oil and gas construction projects in Yemen and to prioritize their impact on projects with a view to identifying appropriate techniques to address these risks in proportion to their scale of impact and replication in projects. A pilot study was conducted using a questionnaire survey with the participation of project managers and engineers from 6 oil and gas sectors in Yemen, the study was conducted on 51 risk factors affecting the cost, time and quality of the project. The study found after analysing the results through Cronbach's alpha coefficient the degree of reliability and consistency of internal risk factors is 96.8%, while the degree of reliability and persistence of external risk factors is 93%. Topping the list of external risks affecting construction projects for the oil and gas sector, the economic situation and the political situation of Yemen in particular with the smouldering war three years ago that led to stop most operations of oil companies by relative importance index analysis (RII) and the instability of the government as one of the owners of the oil sectors and lack of experience with the contractor in addition to the delayed arrival of construction materials to the site at the top of the internal risk factors affecting the implementation of the projects.
