Abstract |
This paper investigated the development of high calcium fly ash (FA) geopolymer mortar containing hydrated lime (CH) as an alternative masonry and plastering mortars.Parameters viz., hydrated lime (CH) replacement, sand-to-binder ratio (S/B) and ratio of sodium silicate (Na2SiO3)-to-sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution on compressive strength of geopolymer mortar were tested. The FA was replaced with CH at the ratios of 100:0, 95:5, 90:10, 85:15 and 80:20.The S/B ratios of 2.0, 3.0, 4.0 and Na2SiO3-to-NaOH ratios of 0, 1.0, 2.0, were also tested.Constantsalkaline liquid-to-binder ratio of 0.60and 10M NaOH concentration were used in all mixes. The compressive strengths of FA geopolymer mortar with CH were tested at the age of 1 day. Test results show that the compressive strength of high calcium FA geopolymer mortar with CHdepended on parameters of CH replacement, S/B ratio and Na2SiO3-to-NaOH ratio.A mixture of 10%CH replacement, S/B ratio of 2.0, Na2SiO3-to-NaOH ratio of 1.0 gave the best experimental result in this study.
