Abstract |
The reduction of temperature at the cutting zone becomes the dominating factor for determining the reliability or efficiency effectiveness of a coolant. The conventional cutting fluids fail to achieve the desired cutting temperature and also have techno-environmental problems along with the possibility of corroding the workpiece and machine tool parts. Cryogenic coolant (dip in LN2) has the potential to obtain the desired cutting temperature and is also environment friendly. The current work involves the experimental study for determining the optimized method of machining for AISI 1040 steel under dry, wet and cryogenic coolant (LN2) conditions by analyzing cutting force, surface roughness and chip formation for all the conditions. Even though cutting forces obtained for cryogenic cooling were high but surface roughness, chip formation were in favor of encouraging cryogenic cooling. | |||||||||
