Abstract
Generally concrete can withstand the effects of fire and retain much of its load carrying capacity. However longer duration of heating or higher magnitude of temperature, can seriously damage the structures. Exposure to higher temperature leads to the formation of micro and macro cracks in the concrete specimens, which results in the reduction of flexural strength of concrete. This paper explains about the influence of ISO rate of heating on the flexural strength of concrete specimens. Specimens with different grades of concrete such as M20, M30, M40 and M50 were considered for experimental investigation. The specimens were heated upto 1 hour, 2 hour, 3 hour and 4 hour as per ISO standard fire curve. Strength loss, weight loss and crack pattern were found out for the specimens exposed to elevated temperature. The weight loss of M50 grade concrete was found to be 12.34% for the specimen heated up to 4 hour duration. For the beams exposed to 3 hour and 4 hour of heating, the residual flexural strength was found to be so insignificant that the specimens were not able to sustain its own weight.
