Abstract
Earthquakes, the most critical natural hazards in the globe, manifest themselves in the form of shakings of the earth which are caused by the sudden release of strain that has accumulated for long time. Recent years have witnessed an increase in knowledge about earthquake and their causes and mitigations. Seismic Hazard analysis is a method of quantifying the region in terms of topographical and seismological facts. An endeavor has been made for estimating the seismic vulnerability, at bedrock level in terms of Peak Ground Acceleration (PGA) using, state of art probabilistic seismic hazard analysis, in the present paper. A detailed catalogue of past and recent seismicity within 300 km radius around the dam has been compiled and new seismotectonic map has been generated for the study area. Before carrying out seismic hazard analysis the catalogue completeness test has been performed. The final outcome of the research provides „a‟ and „b‟ parameters of Gutenberg- Richter recurrence relationship, by finding out the seismicity of the region around Kodar Dam site of Chhattisgarh India, after analyzing the earthquake data statistically. Keywords - Dam, Earthquake, Seismic Hazard, Return Period, Peak Ground Acceleration.
