Abstract
This paper examines the water leakage problem in precast concrete wall joints. It seeks to compare the effectiveness of different precast concrete joints in preventing water penetration. The experiments in this research are designed to test the water penetration of the three types of precast concrete joints: a one-stage wet joint, a two-stage dry joint, and a drain dry joint. The experiments are conducted in two methods. Firstly, the water on the surface method is meant to test the water prevention mechanism of the precast concrete joint with gravitational force. Secondly, the water spray method is to simulate a wind-driven rain with kinetic force from the spray water pressure. The collected test results of the three joints are analyzed to understand the water prevention mechanism and the behavior of the joints. Their analysis shows that a one-stage wet joint is the most effective joint in water prevention because of its lowest amount of transfer of temperature from the exterior to the interior surface. The research findings can be used as guidelines for precast concrete wall joint selection in the future.
