Abstract |
Smartphones are an unavoidable commodity in today’s life because of the wide acceptance of social media and its enormous use in communication. The simplicity in carrying and handling smartphone has replaced personal computers from humans. This makes it necessary to store the information in the cell phone in a protected manner, since most of it may be personal. Even if there are numerous methods for user identification and authentication to use the smartphones, the security or user authentication is an active field of research. HAR and gait recognition are widely used in user authentication in smartphones. This paper discusses the various approaches used for human activity recognition (HAR) and gait recognition and also discusses the user authentication techniques based on HAR and gait characteristics.
