Abstract
The safety applications in vehicular ad hoc network (VANET) which is vulnerable to denial of service (DoS) attacks, such as jamming attack. Denial of Service attacks, may have high impact on these basic safety messages mainly because of the suitable situation of the attack at the lower layers. It raises a jammer to interfere with legitimate wireless communications, and to degrade the overall Quality of Service (QoS) of the network. The proposed detection model is based upon the measurement of error distribution to detect a particular class of jamming attack, in which the jammer transmits only when valid radio activity is signalled from its radio hardware. A real-time Medium-Access-Control-based (MAC-based) detection method is used to meet the requirements of safety applications in vehicular networks. This detection method will distinguish the causes of failed transmissions, such as collisions, interferences, and jamming attacks accurately, also performs high detection probability in different studied scenarios while false alarms are almost avoided. Keywords - VANET, Jamming, MAC, QoS, Vehicular Networks.
