Abstract
Small cell technology is substantial in 5G networks, facilitating capacity expansion and wider coverage. However, deploying ultra-dense small cells can lead to significant handover issues and increased power consumption due to signaling overhead. A promising approach to improve handover experience is to strategically control the load distribution without compromising service quality. This paper introduces a game theoretical approach aimed at mitigating handover failure in dense small cell 5G networks where small cells control their load. A non-cooperative game is formulated among the network cells to solve a cost function that accounts for the cell load. The game is solved using a regret-matching-based learning distribution approach, where each cell selects its optimal strategy to attain equilibrium. Subsequently, the process of selecting cells for handover is conducted through the use of a multiple attribute grey rational analysis technique. The outcomes demonstrate that our proposed method notably decreases handover probability and handover failure, while maintaining higher cell throughput compared to conventional approach.
